What's the full form of PWD

PWD: Public Works Department

PWD is Public Works Department. It is a Govt. of India department that is responsible for the development and maintaining of infrastructures for the public sector like roads, government buildings bridges, water systems, bridges and many more. This is a central authority which is responsible for all public sector projects in India. The provision of safe drinking water supply for the city and repair the damaged water pipes is also the responsibility of the PWD. In addition when there is harm to any government school, hospitals, roads or bridges, repair work is carried out by the PWD.

PWD is in every state of India. It has divisions, sub-divisions, as well as sections. In all states, it is responsible for similar work and responsibilities, including designing and building all public projects carried out by the government, such as creating and developing roads, roads for safety, facilities for highways and roads, maintenance and renovation of government structures, etc. This kind of work was used to be performed by the military in India. Later , around the mid-19th century in the 19th century, the responsibility of public works was transferred to a special area of Indian Civil Service.

The work of PWD can be broken down in four different categories.
